Costa Caribbean Cruise Reviews 2024 UPDATED: Ratings of Costa Cruises to Caribbean
Table Of Content
Costa Cruises caters to a diverse range of travelers, from families with young children to retirees looking for a luxurious getaway, but you'll find your fellow cruisers to be distinctly European on most sailings. Least expensive options are Interior cabins, which are found throughout the ship and do not have a window—these can be as small as 140 square feet (snug for two). There are a variety of Sea View cabins with a rectangular window. Sea Balcony cabins start at 146 square feet inside, plus balcony (about 44 square feet), while 106 Sea Terrace units on decks 8 and 9 are larger and have a balcony about twice as deep. Families can spring for the Sea Terrace Premium units, which include an interior covered terrace with day beds (ideal for cool-weather sailings), plus an oversized balcony; these sleep four. There are 28 suites, all located at the four corners of the ship, fore and aft, with wraparound balconies.
MSC Cruises vs Costa
Multi-generational families are present at all times of the year, even during our late-September sailing. Couples in their 30's, and even 20's, weren't uncommon to see. One curio that North American cruisers are likely to notice is the lack of mini-bars in balcony-category staterooms and lower, though suites offer this amenity. Rooms include two-pronged European style power outlets and USB connections, but no North American outlets.
More about Costa Toscana
For those looking for a truly European-style cruise experience, Costa Toscana delivers, offering a gracious vessel that is capable of appealing to North American and international cruisers alike. I don’t feel that the language barrier prevented me from enjoying my trip in the least. The ship's over-the-top gaudy interiors take a bit of getting used to. Designed by parent company Carnival's Joe Farcus, they leave virtually no surface unadorned. Throw in an Egyptian-themed theater and a Chinese-inspired bar for good measure, and you could experience visual overload. Fortunately, Mediterranea's cabins are roomy and low-key in their decor, so your eyes get a break.
Princess Cruises
On the downside, repetition of info in multiple languages can get tedious. If you're a fan of the boot-shaped country, you'll likely love being aboard Costa Mediterranea. After a few years of "trying to please everybody," Costa -- operator of the only Italian-registered cruise ships -- is returning to its roots, with a renewed focus on its theme, "Italy's finest." In March 2017, Rick and Andrea started Travel Addicts Life as a way to share their travel photos and videos with the world.
Without the all-inclusive package, you must pay for every drink on board, including tap water, which Costa does not provide free of charge despite its portability. Most nights are informal, with "resort wear" appropriate; jackets are not required. There are one or two gala evenings per European sailing, depending on length. Suits for men and cocktail dresses for women are recommended.

However, Costa’s onboard app manager assured a full North American rollout by the end of January 2024. This news is a relief since the app greatly enhances the cruise through its many functionalities. Relying solely on the printed daily program, “Oggi a Bordo,” delivered to your stateroom or cabin, seems antiquated compared to what the app offers. Compared to North American cruises, you’ll immediately notice Costa attracts a much younger passenger demographic. There are hordes of children and teenagers aboard, especially during summertime and holidays when school is out. Costa excels at engaging kids and teens with outstanding youth centers and non-stop entertainment.
In addition to the included fare, Costa Toscana has a multitude of specialty restaurants. These range from the combination pub-and-steakhouse Heineken Star Bar on Deck 7 aft, to the Teppanyaki restaurant on Deck 8 forward, and the Pummid'Oro Pizzeria on Deck 8 forward. Yes, you have to pay for pizza on Costa Toscana -- and yes, it's worth the modest cost, with most pizza's running between nine and 12 Euros. Nicel touches include multiple lighting options, from overhead lights to accent and reading lights over the sofa/daybed and bed -- though balconies curiously have no passenger-controllable lighting. Beds are recessed into a small alcove with attractive blue-and-white padding on walls, and daybeds and sitting areas are adorned with a colored, patterned wall that also doubles as a work of art in its own right. Overall, I loved it, and I cannot wait to go on another Costa cruise.
My Costa Toscana Review
Divided into two groups, Mini (3-6) and Maxi (7-11), each group will be entertained with age appropriate activities all day long (9 AM to 12 AM). My favorite restaurant ended up being the Heineken Star Club & Bistro. It’s a very cool concept and I thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Some French passengers disembark here, while locals embark. The Italian attitude extends to entertainment and the genial party atmosphere onboard. In the evenings, there are up to seven different dance venues to choose from, playing everything from Italian favorites and dance standards to Latin and Euro-pop.
Activities take place across the ship all day (like Bingo, karaoke, and trivia), but the Costa Toscana really comes alive after dinner. And, the excitement lasts until the wee hours of the morning. Another cool location on the Costa Toscana is the Volare Skywalk. This ramp takes you above the top deck for panoramic views of the sea. There were two things I absolutely loved about my room on the Costa Toscana.
Il Forte Beach has pools on both sides of the ship and a small stage for live entertainment, while Versilia Beach is more laid back and has plush cabanas for relaxing. I thought the decor was really pretty, fun, and played on the ship’s “art of living the the seas” tagline. The Costa Toscana is Costa’s newest ship, with a capacity of 6,600 passengers.
It is also the site of late-night parties like the Silent Disco and the La Notte Bianca (White Night) deck party -- both of which get going at Midnight. This atrium spans three decks and is home to live music, theater shows, and dance parties. TVs are scattered throughout the Colosseo so you can enjoy its entertainment while also spending time with friends and family. The main drawback is repeating safety protocols like lifejacket drills while new passengers cycle on. But overall, frequent embarkation smooths passenger transit, expands options and relaxes rigid disembark timetables that rush travelers off ships.

The coolest feature that I saw was the veranda in Sea Terrace rooms. It is a great space for enjoying the outdoors when you can’t be outside on the balcony due to rain or low/high temperatures. I had the chance to view one of each of Costa’s staterooms. It is spacious and allows for the bedroom to be separated from the living room. This not only made it much easier to open than most balcony doors where you have to fight the wind, but you also did not hear balcony doors opening and closing all day long (a million thank yous to Costa for this design!). Additionally, all Costa ships operate in compliance with the highest environmental protection standards.
